Songs VI is part of an ongoing series of soundworks. Songs I – VI (2005-2017) range from a few seconds to a few minutes, in which instances of the lyric ‘golden’ collide to produce condensed audio interludes, at turns joyful, plaintive, and wistful.

Songs VI is based on fifty tracks nominated by participating artists and associated curators. Thanks to: Larry Achiampong, Kat Anderson, Barby Asante, Chi Bagtas, David A. Bailey, Adelaide Bannerman, Sokari Douglas Camp, Libita Clayton, Kimathi Donkor, Ellen Gallagher, Enam Gbewonyo, Nicola Green, Joy Gregory, Melanie Keen, Dave Lewis, Hew Locke, Gabria Lupone, Claire Oboussier, Vong Phaophanit, Khadija Saye, Sunil Shah, Erika Tan, Jessica Taylor, Barbara Walker, Abbas Zahedi. Songs VI is dedicated to the Diaspora Pavilion, and the memory of Khadija Saye.

Songs VI is exhibited with other works from the ongoing project Golden – another audio piece, Golden Hour, 2006, and two site-specific installations, Untitled (Pavilion) and Untitled (Shower), 2017. Diaspora Pavilion is at Palazzo Pisani Santa Marina, Venice, from 13 May to 26 November 2017, presented by ICF (International Curators’ Forum) and UAL (University of the Arts London). Additional thanks to Middlesex University for generous support.
